An app for Mac OS X with a minimalistic UI which lets you quickly throttle down the CPU usage of any running process.

AppPolice

CPU Throttling on the Mac

You can easily manage CPU usage, and control those apps that tend to slow down the computer because they use way too much of the CPU's processing power. For example, you can set the maximum amount of CPU usage for a specific application at 20%. The processing of this application's task will take longer because you are limiting the CPU usage, but the computer won't slow down or halt, and you can continue working on other applications without slowing down the whole system.

For those that use Linux this kind of app is no news. It is build in also into OS X. It is a terminal app called "nice". With nice you can do exactly the same, but this has an UI, which is handy.
