LaunchPad Layout

You can fully customize the layout of Launchpad. Not only change the placement of icons and creation of folders, but you can also change the number of rows and columns.

Note: When you change the layout of the LaunchPad all custom folders and arrangements revert to the default order. After changing the layout you'll need to re-organize your LaunchPad screen.

Launchpad

Use the commands below in Terminal to change the LaunchPad layout. Change X to the number of rows/columns you want.

Row Size

defaults write com.apple.dock springboard-rows -int X

Column Size

defaults write com.apple.dock springboard-columns -int X

Applying Changes

To apply the changes you need to reset LaunchPad and restart the Dock. To do that execute the following command:

defaults write com.apple.dock ResetLaunchPad -bool TRUE;killall Dock

Revert to Default

defaults delete com.apple.dock springboard-rows
defaults delete com.apple.dock springboard-columns

And reset LaunchPad and restart the Dock:

defaults write com.apple.dock ResetLaunchPad -bool TRUE;killall Dock
